The Man Behind H.Y.V.A™
My name is Owen McGab Enaohwo; I find that most people have difficulty pronouncing my last name, so here’s how you pronounce it \e-naw-o-wo\. I began my journey as an Entrepreneur when I became a Real Estate Investor and Agent. Now, I am more focused on running an online business, creating passive income and being able to conduct my business virtually, hence taking advantage of technology in order to achieve true freedom and create my ideal lifestyle. Ever since I’ve learned the secrets of outsourcing & automation (with the help of Virtual Assistants), I am now able to do more things and accomplish more in life. I am not exactly where I need to be yet and my goal is to share my evolving journey with you and to seek out successful Entrepreneurs whom we can all learn from so that they come on this blog and share their experiences with us.
How Everything Started
A couple of years ago, I got myself involved in the Non-Performing Notes (NPNs) business. I initially planned on buying the distressed debt instruments (real estate backed mortgages and notes) from banks. After a few months spending my time in getting to know the INs and OUTs of the business, I soon realized that I needed to have a fairly large amount of money to play the game. I was at the verge of quitting. After thinking things over, I simply decided to create relationships with the Asset Managers at the lending institutions, who were responsible for the sale of NPNs, and then brokered the sale of the NPNs to investors who had the capital to buy them. The idea of creating relationships with Asset Managers was good; the pay great! What I didn’t expect was that trying to get a hold off them was too time consuming.
And then an idea came along…
It was an ordinary day, a couple of years ago, when I had a conversation with a fellow Real Estate Investor. My friend shared his troubles with me; the difficulties he faced handling everything in his business and after reading several books which he referred to me, he said he was thinking of hiring a Virtual Assistant. He explained the benefits of having an extra hand and how much time he will have if he hired one. Then it dawned on me…
“What if I hired someone to do the work on my behalf so that I can focus on what’s more important in my business?”
I then scoured the net to find the perfect Virtual Assistant who could assist me in contacting Asset Managers. It was not an easy process. I tried a couple of V.A.s, but that didn’t work for me. Then I realized that it was not the V.A’s fault, it was mine.
Having read the “Four Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferris and the “World is Flat” by Thomas Friedman, I realized that there is indeed a much bigger a bigger picture to see. Remembering Sun Tzu and how he taught the Emperor’s maids how to dance in accord made me realize that I had made a mistake. As I dug in deeper, I stumbled upon “The E-Myth” by Michael Gerber. In his book, he mentioned that the main reason most Entrepreneurs fail is because they have no teachable systems…
Teachable systems on how to delegate the work to someone else so that they can free up their time to do what they are most passionate for… The reason why they started their respective businesses.
This is the main reason why I worked day in and day out to create a system…
An automatic system through which, I could free myself from the tasks that I did not want to but needed to.
At first, I created a system to train Virtual Assistants on how to find asset managers and what to say to them during their conversation on the phone. I fashioned the system to generate leads (Asset Managers) and have them want to contact me. And to my surprise, it worked!
But to my dismay, I found myself wasting precious time talking to Asset Manager who had the NPNs that I was looking to broker to my clients who bought the NPNs, but the issue was that several deals kept failing through the cracks.
Then another idea came…
I soon realized that instead of being the broker who only got paid when a deal closed, why don’t I just have my clients pay to work with my Virtual Assistants. Thus, my Outsourcing and Virtual Assistant service was born.
The first clients who enjoyed my start-up service were NPN buyers. It was an instant success. I got paid by assigning already trained V.A.s to my clients. My clients were also happy because they got a much favorable deal. It was also cost friendly to them since they only pay a fraction of the amount they could’ve paid me for brokering the NPNs.
